Spirituality In The Arts - Music, Poetry And Movies
Sometimes the world overwhelms us leaving no room to enrich our souls, to find the beauty within. It is difficult to claim your need for spirituality in this busy messy society where things are in constant change.
Most people resign to their faith and live empty lives where every day resembles the last one. Finding the power to pull ourselves from this routine is not always within our grasp, although we should have within us the power to tap into our spiritual side through a poem, a song or a movie.
All of us possess an inner spirituality and unique way of seeing the world around us that gives us a certain aura. But meanwhile most people express themselves poorly artists find ways to extract from within them and the others the sap of innate sensitivity. A work of arts has no meaning if it doesn't have a message. The characters should impress the viewers and readers and appeal to his or her sense of justice or of mercy, make them feel compassionate or overjoyed. It is no use to put words into a poem, notes into music or images on a film if nobody understands it, even if they make sense to you. From this point of view, arts can be considered an alternative way of communicating with others and especially with ourselves.
Arts appeal to the soul, trying to mend it in a way similar to shamanism. Alleviating the soul is the first step in alleviating the body. Although the pains of soul are less visible, they are more intense and they cannot be healed by simple medicine. Knowing how to touch the soul is an art that shamans possess and which can be found while reading Lujan Matus works.
Albeit considered more like a religion than an art, shamanism is as much a spiritual guide as a poem of love - musical or in words - that walks you through the torments of the soul up to the final victory of shared passion. It does not show you images like in a movie, but it shows you how you can recreate your journey like a producer is conceiving a subject.
